Spring has finally arrived and although I would like to wear fur coats all year long, it is finally time to make that transition to lighter jackets. I purchased this jacket last year and have looked for every opportunity to wear it. Thankfully, the weather has decided to stay warm long enough that I am able to.
My go-to spring jacket is usually my leather jacket, however, I think this spring it’s going to take a backseat. This denim kimono is one of my favourite pieces in my wardrobe right now because it’s a modern take on the century-old denim jacket. I was reading a bustle article on the origin of the denim jacket and the author wrote something that expressed my exact thoughts on denim jackets. “The denim jacket can certainly look cool, but it’s never going to be one of those must-have, stop-the-presses, fashion-week-will-never-be-the-same articles of clothing” (Telfer 2014). The reason I love this kimono is because it redefines this definition of a denim jacket. It brings less of a Western vibe and more of an urban one to the look, while still maintaining the versatility of a denim jacket.
Denim on denim is a rare trend that has never gone out of style and probably never will because denim is timeless. I think that the Canadian tuxedo is one of the easiest looks to pull off because you are not limited to what washes of denim you can wear together. For my look, I chose the same wash for both pieces because I knew I wanted to add other colours to the look. I stuck with the same neutral colour for both my shoes and my top to allow my sunglasses to be the pop of colour.
Cat-eye sunglasses are the new trend on the block and I’m dying to get them in every colour. I usually try not to invest too much money into trends because they can often end up going out of style, but I couldn’t help but fall into this one. You could be wearing the simplest outfit, but throwing on a pair of cat eye sunglasses instantly elevates the look and adds a touch of sophistication.
